About the Route to Alaska:
Freeman River RV Park and Campground is located along Grizzly Trail Highway 33, the original route from central Alberta to Alaska. the more direct route, Highway 43, was built later.
Grizzly Trail Highway 33 is part of the original historical route from Edmonton to the Klondike Gold Rush, which took place in Dawson City, Yukon Territory in the years 1897/98.
Fort Assiniboine, a small community located only 5 km east of Freeman River RV Park and Campground, originated as a Hudson Bay Company post in the early 1800’s. During the years of 1897/98, Fort Assiniboine supplied people who were stampeding north towards the Yukon Territory and the Klondike Gold Rush.
the Fort Assiniboine Friendship Museum, located on Main Street, Fort Assiniboine, only 5 km east of Freeman River RV Park and Campground, features information on the historical aspects of Grizzly Trail Highway 33 and its use during the Klondike Gold Rush. the museum, which is fashioned after the Hudson Bay Fort that was situated there during the Klondike Gold Rush, also features many other wonderful exhibits.

From Freeman River RV Park's driveway, turn left (west) onto Grizzly Trail Highway 33. Go West on Grizzly Trail Highway 33 to Highway 658. 6 km
Turn left (south) onto Highway 658. Go Southwest on Highway 658 to Highway 43. 59 km
Turn right (west) onto Highway 43 (towards Whitecourt, Alberta). Go Northwest on Highway 43 to highway intersection located near Valleyview, Alberta. 200 km
Merge or turn left (west) to stay on Highway 43. Go West on Highway 43 (towards Grande Prairie, Alberta) to Highway 2. 111 km
Merge or turn left (south) onto Highway 2. Follow Highway 2 into Grande Prairie, Alberta. Highway 2 becomes 100 Street / Highway 43. Continue following Highway 43. 5 km
Turn right (west) onto 116 Avenue / Highway 43. Go Northwest on Highway 43, crossing into the province of British Columbia. 92 km
As you cross the provincial border from Alberta to British Columbia, Highway 43 becomes Highway 2. Continue following Highway 2 into Dawson Creek, Alberta. 29 km
Turn right to stay on 50 Street / Highway 2. Continue following Highway 2. 10 km
Turn right onto Alaska Avenue / Alaska Highway 97. Go Northwest on Alaska Highway 97 (towards Watson Lake, Yukon Territory). 960 km
At Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, turn left (west) onto Alaska Highway 1. Go West on Alaska Highway 1 to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. 430 km
From Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, continue West on Alaska Highway 1 to highway intersection located near Haines Junction, Alaska. 151 km
Near Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, turn right to stay on Alaska Highway 1 West, crossing into Alaska, United States. Continue Northwest (towards Fairbanks, Alaska). 465 km
Near Tok, Alaska, turn left onto Interstate A1. Go Southwest on Interstate A1 towards Anchorage, Alaska. 218 km
