Grizzly Bear |
the BLACK BEAR'S long fur
varies in color from a shiny black to blond. Adult males or boars weigh from 100 to 200
kg (220 to 440 lb.), and adult females or sows weigh from 45 to 140 kg (100 to 310 lb.).

Black bear can be hunted from late August to
early September by archery only, and from April 1 to June 15 and September 1 to November
30 through general hunting. |

Cougar
the COUGAR (also known as
mountain lion) is the largest of North America's wild cats. Adult males average from 60 to
70 kg (130 to 160 lb.) and females weigh from 40 to 50 kg (90 to 110 lb.). From nose to
tip of tail, a large cougar may be as long as 3 m (10 ft.).
Cougar can be hunted from December 1 to February 28 through
general hunting. Cougar seasons are quota seasons that close early for resident hunters if
the quota is reached. |

Coyote
IN SIZE, COYOTES ARE between the wolf and
fox; adult coyotes weigh 10 to 23 kg (22 to 50 lb.).
A resident may hunt coyote, without a license, throughout the year on land to which he
or she has the right of access, except on unoccupied public lands in the Green Campgroundwhere
the coyote season is from October 1 to February 28.
A non-resident of Alberta, who holds a wolf/coyote license, may hunt coyote throughout
the year on land to which he or she has the right of access, except on unoccupied public
lands in the Green Campgroundwhere the coyote season is from October 1 to February 28. However,
if a big game season (other than cougar) is open, the non-resident hunter must possess the
big game license for that season. |

Mule Deer
MULE DEER get their name from their large,
mule-like ears. they are slightly larger than white-tailed deer; bucks average about 100 kg (220
lb.), and does about 70 kg (155 lb.).
Mule-deer can be hunted from late August to late October by archery only, and from
early-September to late November through general hunting.
White-Tailed Deer
the WHITE-TAILED DEER is
Alberta's most abundant cloven-hoofed animal. White-tailed deer are slightly smaller
than mule deer. Bucks average 90 kg (200 lb.), and does weigh about 60 kg (130 lb.). White-tailed deer can be hunted from late
August to late October by archery only, and from early-September to late November through
general hunting. |

Elk
 |
the NAME "ELK" originated
with early European settlers in the United States, who confused it with the European elk,
which is a close relative of our moose. Elk are often called "wapiti," the
Shawnee word for "white rump."

October by archery only, and from mid-September to mid-December through general hunting. |

Moose
the MOOSE is the largest member of the
deer family in the world. Bulls can weigh over 450 kg (1000 lb.) and stand 2.3 m (7.5 ft.)
at the shoulder. Cows average about 350 kg (770 lb.).

September 1 to late November through general hunting. |
